Respecting Cultural & Historical Sites

Cape Breton Island has a rich cultural landscape shaped by Mi’kmaq, Acadian, Gaelic, and other settler histories. Many sites across the Island hold deep significance, from ancient Mi’kmaw petroglyphs to historic churches, cemeteries, and museums. When visiting these places, be mindful of their meaning and treat them with respect. Follow signage, avoid touching artifacts or structures, and do not remove anything from the site. If photography is not permitted, honour that request. By approaching these places with care, you help preserve them for future generations and show respect for the people and cultures who call this Island home.
