THE BEATON INSTITUTE PRESENTS Summer Series An Evening of Screenings and an Archival Talk discovering our stories through archives. Beinn Mhàbu

Doors open at 5:30pm and screenings start at 6:00pm. Discussion at 8pm

Screenings will be followed by an open discussion with Jane Arnold and Brenda Davis exploring how archival research enriches filmmaking and can connect people with the stories, voices, and the history of their communities.

Films:

SISTER – a feature documentary. Sister tells the story of health workers from Ethiopia, Cambodia and Haiti, exploring how they find meaning while working under difficult circumstances and revealing maternal and newborn death as a human rights issue.
An intimate portrait of a global crisis woven from indigenous scenery and verité footage, Sister captures colors, sights and sounds while exploring dedicated health workers and those in their care through intense and beautiful moments. (Under 15 are highly discouraged, as there are some intense medical images.)

MÀIRI, a short film. Màiri lives on a remote Scottish island, somewhere outside linear historical time. Her world is stitched together from myth and fantasy, and she walks among seals and sheep, roaming through a wordless dream state of sea, land and sky. When Màiri rejects a marriage proposal, her idyllic reality is ruptured by violence and she is forced to conjure her own escape.
