Zachary Richard is an American singer‑songwriter, multi‑instrumentalist, and poet, a leading figure of North American Francophonie and a passionate advocate for Cajun culture. Born in Louisiana in 1950, he modernized Cajun and zydeco music, released over 20 albums, and published several award‑winning poetry collections. Deeply committed to French‑language preservation and environmental causes, he has also created documentaries and written a novel. His cultural impact has earned him numerous honours in Canada, France, and the United States.
