The Hike: This is a great hike for mostly anybody who can walk the 12.4 km return, as the elevation gain and loss are almost negligible for a trail of this length. The beautifully maintained trail is quite wide for the first few kilometres and then narrows to a more traditional width all the way to the Salmon Pools (and fall). This hike during autumn colours is just unforgettable, although the green explosion that occurs in spring also makes that a great time to go. And since this hike doesn’t have very steep parts, it is also a perfect winter snowshoeing hike. In other words, this is a great year-round hike! The trail ends at the Salmon Pools, and only a couple of hundred metres upstream is a 5 m fall located in a rocky outcrop of the river.
From the visitor parking lot, follow the signage for the Salmon Pools Trailhead, which is located southeast of the visitor centre. A small bridge 300 m southeast of the centre over Roberts Brook is a sign that you are heading in the right direction.
