About

Walk Le Chemin du Buttereau to uncover the folklore, hidden history, and enduring resilience of Cape Breton’s Acadian settlers.

Acadian culture is built on a foundation of profound resilience and a deep reliance on community. Across generations of hardship and forced relocation, the people held tightly to their identity, keeping their heritage alive through a spirit of cooperation that still defines Acadian life today. This walk offers a chance to feel that history firsthand, moving past the pages of a textbook and onto the very ground where this unique culture grew.
Ronald Labelle joins us as our cultural guide and folklore scholar, sharing his deep knowledge of oral traditions and lore as we walk Le Chemin du Buttereau inside the Cape Breton Highlands National Park. As we make our way past old stone foundations hidden in the overgrowth, the historic route transforms into a living story, highlighting the neighbourly bonds and shared strength that allowed culture to thrive against all odds.
