About

Big Hill Retreat is located on Rear Big Hill, near Baddeck in the Cape Breton Island region of Nova Scotia. Our private, secluded cottage is surrounded by uninhabited countryside with many miles of trails and roads for hiking, mountain biking or skiing. Our guests are invited to visit our family homestead, which includes the vibrant Big Hill Pottery studio, and a large, organic garden. We also have a pond for fishing, swimming or skating. Big Hill Retreat offers a secure and peaceful setting for every style of retreat: solitary, couples, small groups or families.

Our cottage is perfect for a writer’s retreat or nature retreat, ideal for seeking a quiet, secluded getaway cottage for vacation. Our central location makes it ideal for day trips to anywhere on Cape Breton Island and just minutes to the Brad d’Or Lakes, St. Ann’s Bay, and the Gaelic College. The nearby town of Baddeck is the acclaimed beginning and end of the world-famous Cabot Trail, with its picturesque views and legendary hiking trails. In the fall, the bright foliage brings visitors from near and far to view the breathtaking colours.

Our accommodation is a spacious, handcrafted Log Chalet, with one bedroom downstairs (double bed), second floor with a futon and a 4-piece bath.
