5 Places To Strap On Your Skis on Cape Breton Island

Calling all Skiing enthusiasts! We just picked up our winter passes and are ready to strap on the skis and hit the slopes. Check out these 5 fun and unique places to test your skills.

With a peak elevation of 320m, 59 acres of skiable terrain, and an average snowfall of 381cm Ski Cape Smokey is not to be missed. This incredible ski hill is home to Nova Scotia's highest vertical drop and Atlantic Canada's first gondola! We're not sure what's better, the view or the skiing!

One of the best ways to show off your skills on the slope is by hitting the pipes and catching some air. Ski Ben Eoin is a great place to test out all types of new experiences whether you are a beginner or a master.

Looking to explore unmarked trails and have an entire mountain to yourself? Cape Breton Island is home to dozens of amazing locations that are easily accessible. Scouting for locations to ski has never been so beautiful. Explore our coast-hugging mountains where you can ski in untouched locations that will make all your friends jealous.

Skiing Packages Starting at $109

With the trailhead located by the Northern Victoria Community Centre, you'll find over 10 km (6 mi) of groomed trails, which are groomed daily (weather permitting), waiting for you and your skis. The trails take skiers through hardwood and softwood forests and provide a few fantastic vistas of the Aspy Range. The beauty of these trails is how they cater to both novice and expert skiers, and given the 16’ width at places, there is room for everyone.

5. Experience Telemark and Cross Country at Ski Tuonela

The “Tuonela Trail”, founded in 1997, boasts the Maritime’s only serviced Telemark hill. The Telemark Hill has an elevation of 900ASL, and a 1400ft run over a 400ft vertical. There are steep black diamond chutes at the top followed by a majestic run through a spaced maple and birch forest. Access to the top of the Telly Hill is by the groomed trail, snowshoes, or climbing skins when the Telemark Hill is open. The 25km of x-country trails are groomed on a regular basis.
