Skye River Trail

Start your Whycocomagh (We'koqma'q) adventure by immersing yourself in the rich culture and traditions of the Mi'kmaq people. Visit Skye River Trail in the heart of the community, where you can learn about Mi'kmaq history, cutlure and spirituality through  guided tours be sure to visit the 'Tree of One Thousand Faces'! Don't miss the chance to explore the nearby Mi'kmaq cultural sites, where you can participate in traditional drumming circles, storytelling sessions, and craft workshops led by local artisans.

A Pinch of Salt...Mountain

For outdoor enthusiasts, Whycocomagh offers endless opportunities for exploration and adventure. Lace up your hiking boots and hit the trails in the nearby Salt Mountain Provincial Park, where you can discover scenic lookouts and diverse wildlife. Or take to the waters of the Bras d'Or Lake for a kayaking or paddleboarding excursion, where you can paddle past tranquil islands and hidden coves while soaking in the beauty of the surrounding landscape. Use the Whycocomagh Waterfront Centre to access the water and to learn more about the community.  If you like to getaway from it all and be in the woods, you need to know about Nova Scotia's first off grid pub found at Iron Mountain Wilderness Cabins. Enjoy a pint off the grid!

A Good Day Fishing

The Bras d'Or Lake is known for its abundance of rainbow and brown trout, striped bass, smelt, salmon, cod, flounder, blueback herring, gaspereau, and eel. Whether casting a line from the shoreline or setting sail from the convenient boat launch at the Whycocomagh Waterfront Centre, there's no shortage of opportunities to reel in a memorable catch. As they say, even a tough day of fishing beats a great day at work any time. Staying at the coastal Keltic Quay will put you close to the fish in any season!

And no visit to Whycocomagh would be complete without indulging in some delicious local cuisine.
