Explore Canada Ambassador: Ashley George

Q: Tell us more about Explore Canada’s ambassador program.
A: Destination Canada created the Creators Network to bring together a diverse group of creatives who are passionate about their communities. The goal is to build a space that encourages connection, collaboration and inspiration. Central to Destination Canada’s content is the idea of openness, open spaces, open hearts and open minds. This openness creates an environment for growth, enrichment, and meaningful experiences, positioning Canada as a place where both visitors and locals can flourish.

Q: What does it mean to you to be an ambassador for our province/Island?
A: For me, being an ambassador means I get to share my love for Nova Scotia with others. I want others to see the beauty in our people, our parks, our oceans and our hearts. Our province’s National Parks shine with trails for all levels. We have the most lighthouses in Canada, we are a seafood lover’s dream and a four-season escape. How could anyone not fall in love? Being an ambassador is all about showing why this Island feels like home to so many.

Q: What are you hoping the rest of Canada will learn from you through this program?
A: I really hope that people across Canada start to see Cape Breton Island and Nova Scotia the way I do, not just as places to visit, but as experiences that stay with you. It’s about the way our natural beauty, lively culture and strong community come together to make something truly unforgettable. Through this program, I want to highlight the simple, real moments that make this place so special! It’s the kindness of the locals, the hidden stories in every cove and that feeling of connection that stays with you even after you’ve left. Most of all, I want to inspire others to do more than just visit. I want them to experience everything we offer and leave with a piece of it in their hearts.

Q: What’s your favourite season on Cape Breton Island?
A: My favorite season is no secret and I have truly fallen for fall on the Island. There’s just something so magical about this time of year. It’s the feeling of the cool air, the explosion of colours on the trees and the way the landscape transforms into a dreamland.
Fall is also my favourite time of year to hike in the National Parks and to some of the best hidden gems. Whether it’s a view from a look-off, a waterfall or a summit you will not be disappointed. Plus, fall has this cozy vibe with farmers’ markets, sunflower fields and gatherings that make the Island feel even more inviting. It’s like Cape Breton Island puts on its best show just for you!

Q: If you could share one experience/mood/feeling on Cape Breton Island with the rest of Canada, what would it be?
A: If there was one thing I could share about Cape Breton Island it is that feeling that you are always at home. Whether you have lived here your whole life or travelled for work or vacation, there is this sense of home. It’s that feeling of sitting in a coffee shop and seeing your best friend, or talking to a complete stranger you feel you have known for years. It’s communities coming together to celebrate all life, people and this beautiful landscape we call home. A place your heart will never leave.
