About Destination Cape Breton

Destination Cape Breton Association (DCBA) is the official Destination Marketing Organization (DMO) for Cape Breton Island. DCBA’s mandate is to grow Cape Breton’s tourism industry through off-Island marketing and on-Island tourism product innovation. DCBA’s vision is to become a robust three-season tourist destination offering unparalleled visitor experiences that leave an indelible positive impression on those who visit.

2018 Industry Sessions

Destination Cape Breton Association held a series of Industry Sessions around the Island on Monday, March 19 and Tuesday, March 20, 2018.

These information sessions provided an opportunity for industry partners to receive information on the results of 2017 tourism season and an overview of the DCBA Strategy for 2018-19 along with an opportunity for discussion around marketing and promotional opportunities for industry operators.

TripAdvisor Digital Reputation Management Session
and Social Media Session

Holiday Inn Sydney – Waterfront

Join us for a TripAdvisor Digital Reputation Management session. Andrew Wiens, TripAdvisor’s International DMO Manager will cover:

  • The scope and scale of TripAdvisor;
  • Why it matters to your business;
  • Best practices for managing customer reviews;
  • How to improve your TripAdvisor ranking; and
  • How to access free assets to drive more business.

This isn’t a sales presentation, but a working session designed to provide easy to understand, practical, immediately actionable information. It’s appropriate for owners and management of accommodations, restaurants, tours, and attractions/experiences.

Also, Kristine Mills, Destination Cape Breton’s Digital Marketing Officer, will provide a presentation with tips for your operation to gain more exposure through social media. This will include:

  • Creating and sharing content;
  • Using hashtags;
  • User-generated content;
  • Influencers and communities of interest;
  • Participating in take-overs, Twitter chats, InstaMeets.

2018 Festivals and Events Program Applications Now Being Accepted

Destination Cape Breton Association (DCBA), in partnership with the Cape Breton Regional Municipality, the Municipality of Richmond County, the Municipality of Victoria County, the Municipality of Inverness County, the Town of Port Hawkesbury, and the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) will offer funding assistance to eligible incorporated, non-profit organizations on Cape Breton Island.

Festivals and events are an important contributor to the tourism industry and the event program targets events with the potential to generate new visitation, or to better serve visitors to the Island; increase length of stay and spending, and improve the quality of the visitor experience.

There is new criteria this year. Please read the Criteria before filling out the application.

The deadline for applications is 4:00PM Atlantic, May 24, 2018.

DCBA contracted the development of niche product inventories and assessments for culinary, winter tourism, trails, performing arts, and outdoor adventure over the past few years.
