About

Powwow season in Unama’ki closes at Wagmatcook. On September 26 and 27, the Mi’kmaw community on the shores of the Bras d’Or Lake welcomes drummers, singers and dancers from across Mi’kma’ki for two days of grand entry, dancing in regalia, traditional food and work by Mi’kmaw artisans and craftspeople.

The powwow returned to Wagmatcook in 2024 after a 15-year absence and has become a fitting close to the season, held as the hills above the lake begin to turn.
Visitors are welcome. Take your time, follow the MC’s direction on when to stand and when photography is appropriate, and plan to stay for the afternoon rather than passing through on your way along the Cabot Trail.
