About
Poet of the Common Man: A Tribute to Merle Haggard is a heartfelt tribute to the legendary American country artist Merle Haggard. Performed by PEI singer-songwriter Lawrence Maxwell and his ensemble, the Band of Fugitives, the show delves into Haggard’s tumultuous life—from his early days as a train-hopping drifter in California to his rise as one of country music’s most influential outlaws. The show features a selection of Haggard’s iconic songs, offering audiences a glimpse into his personal and professional journey. Known for his “blue-collar poetry” and neo-traditional country sound, Maxwell blends storytelling and music to honour the legacy of one of country music’s most enduring figures.
The Sunset Series at Inverness County Centre for the Arts brings together incredible live music, breathtaking ocean views, and the warm energy of community — all under the setting sun. With a thoughtfully curated lineup of local and touring artists, delicious food and drink vendors on-site, and a stunning outdoor venue that slopes gently toward the stage, every night promises a unique and unforgettable experience.
