Sheep to Shawl: A Week in the Making

Margarees

Jun 1 – Jun 6

About

This program will interpret and demonstrate the traditional process of transforming raw fleece into a finished textile, highlighting the full journey from sheep to shawl.

The project is inspired by the internationally recognized International Back-to-Back Wool Challenge, a highly structured global competition in which teams transform raw fleece into a finished garment within a timed event.

Members of the Lake Ainslie Weavers and Craft Guild participated in this challenge over several years under the team name The Spinthrifts. In recognition of their work, the Guild was honoured by the Canadian Co-operative Wool Growers Limited as the top Canadian team, completing the full process—from raw fleece to a finished knitted sweater—in 8 hours, 33 minutes, and 9 seconds.
