About
Experience the beauty of We’koqma’q through art and creativity during this plein air (outdoor) painting event along the scenic Skye River Trail. Participants will create paintings inspired by the surrounding landscape with support and guidance by Unama’ki/Cape Breton based artists Bailee Higgins and Hailey Storm. Canvases, acrylic paints, brushes, palettes, paper towel, water cups and easels will be provided. Please feel free to bring your art medium of choice.
Bailee Higgins (she/her) is a visual artist and art teacher based in Sydney, Cape Breton. Her practice focuses on landscape painting and capturing the essence and feelings of surrounding places.
Hailey Storm is a self-taught mixed Mi’kmaq/Settler artist based in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. An enrolled member of the St. George’s Indian Band on the coastal shores of western Newfoundland, Storm’s practice is deeply informed by her cultural heritage, teachings, and traditions. Her multidisciplinary body of work spans nature, still life, portraiture, and landscape-each piece characterized by bold composition and an ever-evolving visual language. Grounded in a profound sense of place, identity, and ancestral connection, her paintings explore the intersection of traditional ways of life and contemporary experience.
