Meet Lyndsey Prosper, Mi’kmaq Bead Artist & Artist in Residence

Lyndsey Prosper is a Mi’kmaq bead artist from Eskasoni First Nation. With a dedication to her craft spanning 6 years, Lyndsey’s path into beadwork began with studying techniques from fellow bead artists, although she is mostly self-taught. Her commitment to her art has led her to participate in local craft markets and powwows, where she can showcase her beadwork. These events have provided a platform to share her work and creations and to connect with others who appreciate the Mi’kmaq heritage incorporated into each piece.

As an indigenous artist, Lyndsey’s beadwork is deeply rooted in the cultural teachings of her Mi’kmaq heritage. Tying Etuaptmumk (two-eyed seeing) into her work, this Mi’kmaq guiding principle encourages the use of Mi’kmaq knowledge and tying it with modern/western knowledge systems. Within Lyndsey’s beadwork, she incorporates modern contemporary techniques while including her traditional teachings.
