What You’ll Experience
As you walk the grounds of this historic lightstation, you are greeted by the striking silhouette of the 72-foot octagonal concrete tower. It is famous for housing the only remaining circular lantern in Nova Scotia—a rare architectural gem built by the renowned Chance Brothers of England.
From this vantage point, you can enjoy panoramic views of Spanish Bay and watch the massive Newfoundland ferries glide past on their daily journeys. The rugged, "barren" beauty of the point offers a serene escape where the salt air and the rhythmic sound of the waves provide the perfect backdrop for a coastal stroll.
Heritage & History
Though the current concrete tower dates to 1938, the site’s history stretches back nearly two centuries. It was one of the first dozen beacons lit in Nova Scotia to support the island’s booming coal trade. Today, the lighthouse continues to serve the community, maintained with pride and recognized for its elegant proportions and enduring functional design.
