Attention heritage carpenters, old-house owners, and history buffs of all kinds! The Highland Village Museum in Iona is hosting a free talk by Dr. Richard MacKinnon about the houses, barns, and construction techniques of the early Scottish Gaels in Cape Breton on Thursday, September 17 at 7PM.
Recently retired as the academic vice-president of Cape Breton University, Dr. MacKinnon has spent decades researching, writing, and teaching about the culture and heritage of Cape Breton. The well-known academic and folklorist has also spent plenty of time exploring the backroads of the island, documenting old log cabins, and diving into the archival records of the buildings Scottish Gaels constructed in Cape Breton. In this talk, Dr. MacKinnon will share his findings. Admission is free and a tea will be served. Everyone is welcome.
