About
Born a Woman – A tribute to the Early Feminist Songs of Rita MacNeil is a tribute concert that revisits a lesser-known chapter of Rita MacNeil’s Early career through the songs she wrote in 1975 while immersed in the women’s liberation movement as a member of the Toronto Women’s Caucus. It is here that Rita found her voice. Before the awards, before national television, before becoming one of Canada’s most beloved voices, Rita MacNeil was writing songs inside activist spaces. She was performing at protests, organizing alongside women, and exploring themes of identity, independence, and autonomy through music.
