About

Jacqueline Finn always had a passion for making jewelry, but when she turned her hobby into a career and started Jac-Out-of-the-Box jewelry it didn’t take long for the world to take notice. Her unique pieces: wired and beaded rings, bronze and silver bracelets, and earrings are based around an ancient technique that involves carving designs into cuttlefish bones, a plentiful product on the Cape Breton shoreline. Finn learned the technique at the Cape Breton Centre for Craft and Design in Sydney, where she rents studio space and credits the area with inspiring her work. “I love Nova Scotia,” she says, “my pieces have a bit of an organic look and I think it comes from living in an area as beautiful as this”

Within a year of starting her business Finn’s creations were discovered by a company that creates gifting suites at celebrity events. Soon she was rubbing shoulders with the stars at the Golden Globes. The next year her designs were featured at a similar event at TIFF. “It’s been a whirlwind,” Finn admits. Their work, though sometimes inspired by the rugged outdoors, often shows sophisticated urbanism that speaks to today’s Nova Scotia.
