The 100-acre estate of the award-winning Chanterelle Country Inn and Cottages celebrates the beauty and the bounty of Cape Breton Island. Situated on the Cabot Trail, it sits high on a brae overlooking the estuary of the North River as it flows into St. Ann’s Harbour. Our staff is pleased to provide personalized touring information and to create daily itineraries for individuals, couples and groups wanting to discover the Cape Breton Island region. Service is offered in English and Spanish.
Our accommodations include nine rooms (Double, Queen or King-sized beds), all with ensuite 4-piece baths, and three one-bedroom housekeeping cottages (Twin, Queen or King-sized beds), all with 4-piece baths. The cottages have satellite TV. An eco-award-winning property, we are chemical- and fragrance-free. Guest can relax with a good book from the extensive library, take the path to the gazebo and pedal boats on the harbour or go into the woods on one of the many nature trails. A buffet breakfast, served between 7:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. on the veranda, features organic, locally-sourced food and is included in the room rate for Inn guests (also available to cottage guests for an extra charge). Hannah Krebs works as a ban-chleasaiche | Gaelic Cultural Animator at Baile na Gàidheal | Highland Village Museum. Gaelic language, music, and square dances are some of her favourite things about Cape Breton.
Shannon MacMullin is a Gàidhlig learner, singer and storyteller; a community educator, and the Cultural Experiences Co-ordinator at Baile nan Gàidheal | Highland Village. She loves dancing, making beauty in the world & bringing people together.
The Gaels celebrated their culture not in huge buildings or sculptures but in their songs. Their songs told the stories of the people, the land, good times and bad, love's lost and yearned for.
There’s nothing better than watching two musicians who just love playing music together.
As a songwriter, I’ve often described my creative process as though I have tuned into an invisible radio frequency.
It is well-established that dance tradition is an important, if not defining, influence on Cape Breton's traditional music.
Heather Rankin is a singer, songwriter, actor and member of the 6X Juno Award winning band The Rankin Family. As a solo artist she has released two albums, A Fine Line (ECMA/Juno Nom.) and Imagine (ECMA Nom.).
