About
Take an immersive virtual mine tour through the last century of coal mining in
Cape Breton. Then journey into the depths of Ocean Deeps Colliery, a coal mine
located beneath the Museum building. Meet your tour guide, a former coal miner,
at the entrance to the mine and put on a hard hat to prepare for the authentic
experience ahead. He will entertain you with rich and lively stories of living and
mining in Cape Breton. Above ground, tour our interactive exhibits and the Miners
Village to learn more about the coal industry and the men and boys who worked
tirelessly underground, and the women who kept the coal fires burning!
– Both tours last between an hour and a half to two hours
– For people with mobility issues, we recommend just the above ground
virtual mine tour
– Museum hours are 10:00am to 6:00pm with tours running between 11:00am
and 4:00pm
