About

The Royal Hotel is located at the heart of Sydney on beautiful Cape Breton Island. Built in the late 1700’s, the Royal Hotel provides 9 interestingly unique suites, each depicting a rustic feel and allowing for the natural beauty of time to shine by sharing its story.

The Royal Hotel is a historic boutique hotel and the oldest hotel in Canada. We have been hosting guests since 1785 and the richness of our history continues to amaze many. In those years, the British Empire needed a Royal banner at the entry point of Sydney. In 1875, this property was home to our former Prime Minister, Sir John A. Macdonald.

The Royal Hotel is conveniently located, facing Sydney’s scenic harbour waterfront, and is nested around cafes, restaurants, shops, museums and theaters. Book your stay in one of our original vintage suites and allow yourself to step back in history. Our lobby has a beautiful working fireplace and our walls are covered by authentic paintings from local artists. Throughout the years, this very unique hotel has never ceased its purpose, hosting guests with utmost respect in a very dignified environment. Come take part in our Royal Hotel family, for we are a very personalized hotel, and together we forge memories, and create history.

The hotel had many renovations and beautifully done upgrades over the years, all of our suites have AC. On all three floors guests can treat themselves anytime to a warm tea or coffee. The kitchenette is located on the 2nd floor.

Daily at the Royal Hotel:

Full-service french-style breakfast served 7am-9am. Reservation required.
