Christmas – Children’s Creative Workshops
The Cape Breton Centre for Craft & Design is excited to offer a series of Christmas Children’s Creative workshops designed to inspire creativity and holiday fun!
(1.) Christmas Clay Creations!
Date: November 21, 2026 (Saturday)
Time: 12:30 pm – 3:30 pm
Instructor: Glynis Thomas
Ages: 7 to 12 years
Fee: $40
Get your kids into the holiday spirit with this fun, hands-on clay workshop. During this three-hour class, students will create their own unique Christmas decoration using clay while learning basic hand-building techniques.
Glynis Thomas has always had a passion for art and shares that love with her four children. She has been painting, drawing, and sculpting (with clay, paper) for over 40 years. She is a certified instructor for the RESPECT & DARE (to resist drugs and violence) programs for children, as well as a First Aid/CPR Instructor for 30 yrs. Glynis believes in combining the knowledge of how clay can be worked with self-expression, laughter and the joy of creating art for its own sake.

Pick-Up Information:
Finished projects will be fired and glazed after the workshop and will be ready for pick-up approximately 2-3 weeks after the class.
(2.) Christmas Jewellery Made with Paper & Recycled Materials
Date: November 28, 2026 (Saturday)
Time: 11:00 am – 1:00 pm
Instructor: Paulina Osorio
Ages: 7 to 12 years

Get your kids into the holiday celebrations with this fun, ecological workshop. Over two hours, kids will create amazing Christmas-themed jewelry from paper, thread, and materials you thought were garbage. Bring to life amazing creations to wear this season and help the planet by recycling creatively.
Paulina Osorio is a passionate teacher who loves sharing innovative art and craft techniques. She is a visual artist exploring diverse materials, including contemporary embroidery, drawing, engraving, and digital painting. She lives in Glace Bay and is inspired every day by the landscapes of Cape Breton. She enjoys reading, dancing, and teaching Spanish to anyone who asks.

(3.) Felting a Woolly Winter Wonderland
Date: December 5, 2026 (Saturday)
Time: 11:00 am – 1:00 pm
Instructor: Alison Uhma
Ages: 7 to 12 years
Fee: $30
Needle felting is a dry felting technique that uses wool fiber and a special needle to create fiber works of art. In this workshop students will create a 5 x 7, 2D woolly winter wonderland. Students will plan out a landscape on paper before needle felting their landscape using the tools and material provided. This is a great introduction to needle felting and is appropriate for beginners as well as those with prior experience.
Alison Uhma is a visual artist and arts educator based in Sydney, Cape Breton. In her art practice Alison blends storytelling and illustration to explore memory and the force of everyday life in shaping identity. She is currently working on her first full length graphic memoir, Fault (Conundrum Press), with a release date set for the summer of 2027. As an arts educator Alison merges process driven learning experiences with explicit instruction.
(4.) Two Christmas Watercolour Cards:
Date: December 5, 2026 (Saturday)
Time: 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm
Instructor: Beverly Cathcart
Ages: 12+
Fee: $30
Create beautiful Christmas watercolour cards featuring a festive wreath and poinsettia. In this two-hour workshop, students will learn watercolour techniques while creating their own holiday cards to enjoy or share with family and friends. Materials are included.

Beverly Cathcart After retiring from a 30-year career in banking, Beverly returned to her early interest in painting. She recalls that in 1958, her father, a Draegerman during the Springhill Mine Disaster, brought her a small metal box of watercolour paints, which she describes as “planting the seed.”
While she has dabbled in oil, acrylic, pen & ink and silk, watercolour has provided her the most freedom of expression. She has exhibited in various shows, including CBU Proletariart, I.O.D.E Autumn Treasures and Cape Breton Centre for Craft & Design Art Class Exhibits. She also had a solo show at the NWCU Main Street Gallery and was the featured artist in 2017 at the 20th Pierscape Art Festival. In recent years, Bev has had the privilege of introducing many students to the basics of watercolour through the CBRM ConnectArts program.
As for her style, she enjoys the challenge of realistic painting, but her preference is a loose, sometime impressionistic and spontaneous approach, which allows the viewer an opportunity to create their own conclusions. Bev is honoured to have her paintings displayed in many Cape Breton homes.
(5.) Christmas Ornaments Painting
Date: December 12, 2026 (Saturday)
Time: 11:00 am to 1:00 pm
Instructor: Paulina Osorio
Ages: 7 to 12
Fee: $40
Get your kids to the fun painting party to make fun ornaments for holidays.
During the class the children will create their own mobile with snowflakes, snowman and more.
