Fall 2026 on Cape Breton Island brings a 30th anniversary Celtic Colours, the Island's first pro rodeo and a full slate of festivals and championships running September through November.

Fall on Cape Breton Island means fiery hillsides, cool mornings and a lineup of events worth planning a trip around. From a 30th anniversary music celebration to the Island's first pro rodeo, here's what's on this season.
Celtic Colours International Festival - October 9 to 17

Celtic Colours turns 30 this year and the Island is throwing the kind of party three decades deserve. Over nine days, 52 concerts and more than 275 community cultural experiences unfold across 36 communities, with artists coming in from Scotland, Ireland, the U.K., the U.S. and across Canada to join the home talent. If you only plan one fall trip to Cape Breton Island, make it this one.
Cape Breton Pro Rodeo - September 24 to 27, Centre 200, Sydney

The Island's first-ever professional rodeo rides into Sydney this fall. Four days of bull riding, bronc riding and barrel racing share the bill with concerts from Sam Roberts, Alan Doyle, High Valley and more, plus western-style vendors and food. A genuinely new kind of fall weekend for Cape Breton.
Hike the Highlands Festival - September 12 to 18, Cabot Trail (and Northern Cape Breton)

Seven days of guided hikes along the Cabot Trail draw hikers from across North America and Europe every year. Trails range from easy coastal walks to challenging mountain climbs, all set against some of the best fall colour on the Island.
St. Peter's Pirate Days - September 10-13, St. Peter’s

St. Peter's leans into its swashbuckling history with a weekend of parades, costume contests and pirate reenactments for the whole family. A local favourite that keeps growing every year.
Cabot Trail Writers Festival - October 2-4, St. Ann's area and surrounding communities

Authors and readers gather in and around St. Ann's for a weekend of readings, workshops and conversation set against the backdrop of the Cabot Trail's fall colours.
Boxing Canada Elite National Championships - November 17 to 21, Membertou Trade and Convention Centre

Membertou and Cape Breton Island host Canada's best Olympic-style boxers as they compete for spots on the national team. A first for the Island and a big win for local sport tourism.
Grand Slam of Curling National - November 17 to 22, Centre 200, Sydney

Sydney adds another elite curling event to its resume, following the 2019 Scotties Tournament of Hearts and the 2024 World Women's Curling Championship. Some of the best men's and women's teams in the world will compete right in Sydney.
Cabot Trail Food Truck Rally - October 24 and 25

The Cabot Trail Food Truck Rally returns for another year, with food trucks parked at scenic stops along the trail both Saturday and Sunday, from 10 am to 4 pm each day. A tasty way to see the fall colours and support local vendors at the same time.
