The New Visit Cape Breton App, Margaret AI and Trip Planner

Your pocket guide to exploring our Island.

Cape Breton Island rewards the curious traveller. To make planning easier, Destination Cape Breton has launched a connected toolkit that goes from couch to coastline: the new Visit Cape Breton mobile app, a 24/7 AI concierge named Margaret and an interactive trip planner embedded in our website. Here's how to use them.

The Visit Cape Breton Mobile App

Available now on the App Store and Google Play, the official mobile app is built for travellers on the move.

  • Trip planner — browse listings and add favourites to a personalised itinerary that syncs across all your devices.
  • Near Me map — GPS wayfinding surfaces attractions, dining and hidden gems based on your real-time location.
  • Digital passports — check in at curated locations to earn badges, points and rewards. Geofencing confirms you're really there.
  • Curated tours and trails — themed routes hand-picked by our team and local creators.
  • Real-time updates — push notifications about events, weather alerts and nearby offers.
  • Live data sync — hours and contact info pull daily from Google Business Profiles and our website.

Meet Margaret: Your 24/7 AI Concierge

Margaret is the AI concierge built into our trip planner. Ask her something natural like “What's open for dinner in Ingonish tonight?” and she'll answer with verified suggestions you can add to your itinerary in one tap.

She only draws from the official Destination Cape Breton database, so every recommendation comes from a vetted local partner — and the more you tell her about your interests, the smarter her suggestions get.

The Visit Widget Trip Planner

The Visit Widget Trip Planner is embedded right into VisitCapeBreton.com, so you can build your perfect Cape Breton trip without ever leaving the site.

  • One-click planning — tap “Add to Plan” on any listing to build a custom schedule.
  • Dynamic sync — plans made on the website appear instantly in your mobile app.
  • Smart mapping — see how your stops connect across the Island.
  • Easy sharing — send itineraries by text or email so the whole crew can weigh in.

How-To: Earn the Waterfall Season Passport

Check in at three official waterfall sites and you'll unlock a contest entry for the Waterfall Season Grand Prize.

  1. Download and sign up. Get the app and create a free account — without one, the app can't track your check-ins.
  2. Turn on Location Services. Geofencing won't activate the Check-In button if GPS is off.
  3. Pre-load on Wi-Fi. Sign in before you head out — service is patchy in the Highlands, but the app tracks scans offline once you're logged in.
  4. Scan at the falls. Find the official QR code at each site and scan it with the app.
  5. Enter the contest. After three check-ins, a contest form unlocks inside the app. Fill it out and you're entered.

See You on the Island

Download the app, say hello to Margaret and start building your Island itinerary today. We can't wait to see where you'll go.
