Fiddles, waterfalls and friends and it all happens right here on Cape Breton Island.

What Is Island Wide Waterfall Weekend?

Island Wide Waterfall Weekend is a large, Island-wide celebration of Waterfall Season on Cape Breton Island.

For one special weekend, hikers will head out across the Island to explore waterfalls with Cape Breton Island Ambassadors and local influencers joining in on the fun. From hidden forest gems to powerful coastal cascades, you’ll experience the Island at its freshest and most vibrant.

After a day on the trails, everyone gathers at Big Spruce Brewing for an evening of music, food and community.

Guided Waterfall Hikes Across the Island

Waterfall Season is one of the best times to visit Cape Breton Island. Snowmelt and spring rain make the waterfalls thunder down the cliffs and through the forests.

During Island Wide Waterfall Weekend, you won’t be hiking alone. Cape Breton Island Ambassadors and local influencers will guide groups on trails all over the Island. They’ll share stories, tips and their favourite photo spots along the way.

Whether you’re a seasoned hiker or just looking for a scenic walk, there will be options for different comfort levels.

It’s a chance to:

  • Discover new trails
  • Meet fellow adventurers and build community
  • Experience the Island like a local

The Celebration at Big Spruce Brewing

After the hikes, the celebration continues at Big Spruce Brewing in Nyanza.

With sweeping views of the Bras d’Or Lake and a welcoming atmosphere, Big Spruce is the perfect gathering place. Enjoy craft beer brewed on-site, grab dinner from food trucks like Rosa’s Smash Burgers and connect with fellow hikers.

You’ll also find local vendors on-site, including Highwheeler Cafe and Hike Nova Scotia, adding even more energy to the evening.

It’s relaxed, lively and full of Island spirit.

An Afternoon with Mary Frances Leahy

The highlight of the day? A live performance by Mary Frances Leahy!

The daughter of Natalie MacMaster — Cape Breton music royalty — Mary Frances carries forward a powerful musical tradition while carving her own path. Her performances are electric, heartfelt and deeply rooted in the Island’s culture.

If you love Celtic music, step dancing and the unmistakable Cape Breton sound, this is a show you won’t want to miss.

Imagine this:
A full day chasing waterfalls.
A cold local brew in hand.
Fiddles filling the evening air.

Make It a Weekend Getaway
