Bras d’Or & Boularderie Island Area

A rural lifestyle is almost mandatory in Bras d'Or and Boularderie Island. This pastoral setting along the Bras d'Or Lake encourages a slower pace of life, the ideal place to embrace 'Island Time'.

Country Living and Farm Life

First things first, let's talk about rural living. Picture rolling hills, quaint farmhouses, and friendly neighbors who know each other by name. In Bras d'Or, life moves at a leisurely pace, giving you ample time to stop and smell the wildflowers (trust us, they're everywhere). Forget about the hustle and bustle of city life; here, it's all about trading traffic jams for peaceful country roads and skyscrapers for endless stretches of greenery. The only jams here are from berries!

Farming is a big part of life and history on Boularderie Island. You can find fresh eggs, meats and produce and in some cases you can even pick your own! Come summer and fall you'll find a number of road signs advertising a 'U-Pick' where you can pick your favourite berries like strawberries and blueberries and even some big pumpkins. Fall is when the Island comes alive with Hank's Farm offering their corn maze and fall

The Bras d'Or Lake

It may be called a lake, but this is really Canada’s inland sea. The Lake is a sailors and a paddler’s paradise. Dozens of communities populate the shores of the Bras d'Or and many still use it as a part of their daily lives, whether it's be living on house boats, for fishing or for leisure.

The Bras d'Or Lake is designated a UNESCO designated Biosphere

Kick back and stay a while

It's hard to visit Bras d'Or and Bouladerie Island not want to adopt the lifestyle. Kick back and stay while here at some of the Island's charming farmlife Bed and Breakfast like the Seaweed and Sod Bed and Breakfast, eat at classic Cape Breton Island restaurants like the Cedar House, Jane's, 1409 and The Bras d'Or View Restaurant. Always be on the look out to see some of our most popular residents, bald eagles! Use the Island as your launch point for your Cape Breton Island vacation.

Leave the Worries Behind

So there you have it – Bras d'Or, where rural charm meets lakeside living in the most delightful way possible. Whether you're seeking a peaceful retreat from the chaos of modern life or simply looking to reconnect with nature, this quaint community has everything you need and more. So pack your bags, leave your worries behind, and come experience the magic of Bras d'Or for yourself. Trust us, you won't regret it.
