5 Amazing Waterfalls in Cape Breton

1. Egypt Falls, via McFarlane Brook Trail

First on our list is one of Nova Scotia's most photogenic waterfalls, Egypt Falls. Tucked away in the hills between the Margaree and Lake Ainslie. This is a 2-level cascading waterfall and is also known as Piper’s Glen as you may find in some guidebooks. A great spot to have a swim and relax in nature with a picnic and some good company.

2. Uisge Bàn Falls

Another stunning waterfall is the Uisge Ban Falls, which is accessible through a 1.5 km trail that passes through a hardwood forest featuring maple, birch and beech woods. This waterfall is the perfect way to spend an afternoon exploring downtown Baddeck. This attraction takes about an hour or so to complete and is sure to be worth the adventure.

3. MacIntosh Brook Falls

This is one of those easy and short hikes you can add to the end of your day or walk as a leg stretcher in the middle of a long drive around the Cabot Trail. MacIntosh Brook has incised a hidden valley on the south side of the Grande Anse River valley. The forest for the first few minutes is composed of softwoods but it quickly changes to a hardwood stand that lasts all the way to the falls.

4. Corney Brook Falls

These falls are perfect when you're looking for an easy walk in the woods with a great reward. Follow a meandering brook through a hardwood forest to a small waterfall that marks the end of the trail. You are actually in a box river canyon – there is only one way out! Keep a watch out for wildlife – a variety of birds, snowshoe hares or maybe even a moose. Local Acadians know this brook as “Rivière à Lazare.”

5. Beulach Ban Falls

Nestled within the borders of the Cape Breton Highlands National Park, these spectacular cascades are sure to amaze you. To reach these falls, it is only a short hike through the park, near Cape North in the Aspy Valley. The Beulach Ban Falls fall from the top of the highlands and are surrounded by forest, and with its close entry to the road, these falls are easily accessible—allowing for everyone to enjoy the view.
