Makin’ Waves at Wentworth Park: Classified / Morgan Toney

George Street, Sydney

902-563-5510

Date: Jul 17, 2025

CLASSIFIED returns to Wentworth Park for the first time since 2017 with new sounds, new songs, and a new show in tow. Hailed by The Chronicle Herald for his remarkable ability to bridge the gap between performer and audience, Classified has firmly established himself as one of Canada’s most esteemed and accomplished rap artists, producers, and songwriters. Classified’s remarkable career has amassed 30 nominations and 10 wins across the MuchMusic Video Awards, JUNO Awards, and East Coast Music Awards.

With thousands of years of tradition behind him, MORGAN TONEY melds the Scottish heritage of this Nova Scotian island with Mi’kmaq songs, stories, and language in his own genre of music, “Mi’kmaltic,” meaning Mi’kmaq + Celtic. His new album, Heal the Divide (released on March 7th, 2025 with Indigenous label Ishkōdé Records), recognizes the difficult history the L’nuk (Mi’kmaq) and all First Nations peoples have had in Canada, but it also celebrates the L’nu legacy in Canadian culture. It’s part of Toney’s larger vision to bring people together, to set our differences aside, and walk toward a place that Toney calls the “Promised Land”.

Makin’ Waves, July 3-31, is presented by Sydney Credit Union and produced by the Cape Breton Regional Municipality. These concerts are made possible by the Government of Nova Scotia, Government of Canada, and festival partners Protocase and Cape Breton Beverages.
