About
Harry Manx, the “Mysticssippi” bluesman, has carved out a singular sound that bridges Eastern and Western musical traditions—blending the soul of the blues with the depth and intricacy of Indian classical ragas. His music is often described as hypnotic and transportive, weaving together storytelling, groove, and a spiritual undercurrent that sets him apart.
Born on the Isle of Man and raised in Ontario, Manx got his start in Toronto’s blues scene, working as a roadie and later as a sound engineer at the legendary El Mocambo, where he was immersed in the sounds of blues greats. After years of touring and busking in Europe, his path led him to India, where he spent over a decade studying under Mohan Veena master Vishwa Mohan Bhatt. There, he re-learned his craft from the ground up—absorbing Eastern scales, ragas, and the subtle nuances of Indian musical expression.
The result is Manx’s signature Indo-blues style, a seamless fusion of slide guitar traditions and Indian instrumentation, particularly the Mohan Veena. His music moves effortlessly between introspection and celebration, capturing both the meditative qualities of Indian music and the rhythmic drive of the blues.
A prolific and celebrated artist, Manx has released an extensive catalogue of work and received multiple Maple Blues Awards, several JUNO nominations, and a Canadian Folk Music Award. With each performance, he invites audiences into a rich, cross-cultural musical journey that continues to evolve.
