Sydney Mines Heritage Museum & Fossil Centre in Sydney Mines on Cape Breton Island focuses on the history and heritage of the town of Sydney Mines 200 year history of steel making and coal mining and transportation.
Our restored 1905 train station houses historical artifacts from the community which represents life in Sydney Mines during the coal mining era.
Explore the Cape Breton Fossil Centre which has the largest Carboniferous Plan Fossil display in Canada, in North America. We have over 800 plant fossils on display, as well as a display area, lab, classroom and boardroom. We offer daily tours of our display area.
Enjoy stories from our guides or go on your own fossil hike and explore the coastline to find your own hidden treasure. Bus tours are welcome.
