Note: Due to COVID-19, the visitor experience at Parks Canada-administered places will be different than it has been in the past. The health and safety of visitors, employees and all Canadians is of the utmost importance.
Parks Canada is asking visitors to comply with recommendations from Nova Scotia public health authorities by wearing a mask in indoor public spaces, and by respecting recommended social distancing measures at all times. As of October 4, 2021, following provincial public health measures, proof of full vaccination is required at all Nova Scotia national historic sites, and Parks Canada organized events and experiences for visitors 12 years of age and older.
Parks Canadas network of protected places is large and diverse. Visitor access, services, and even opening dates may vary across Cape Breton Island and Canso depending on local circumstances. Please visit pc.gc.ca/ns and follow Parks Canadas social media channels for information and updates on the status of all Parks Canada-administered places.
Connect with friends and family at La Taverne Storehouse, just as Louisbourg’s residents did 300 years ago!
Drink in the cheery atmosphere of La Taverne Storehouse. Surrounded by stone architecture and hand-crafted reproduction furniture, youll feel you have been transported to another time and place. Your servers are residents of the town, complete with period costume, and will invite you to sample an authentic taste of the past. Flow from the tavern into the interactive exhibit area dedicated to the history of rum, the most popular drink in Louisbourg 300 years ago.
Test your knowledge with our trivia screen and learn the story behind Fortress Rum, created by Authentic Seacoast Distilling Company in collaboration with Parks Canada and the Fortress Louisbourg Association. Inspired by the historic rum trade of New France, this signature spirit is aged in oak barrels at the Fortress of Louisbourg. A range of craft beer and cider is also available to sample, selected for local connections and distinguished flavours. Are you a history buff? You can discover how each of these products connects to the authentic story of Louisbourg through virtual tasting experiences, to be enjoyed at the tavern or on your journey home. Stay tuned to our events calendar for evening experiences filled with music, laughter and lantern-light. Connect with friends and family, just as Fortress residents did 300 years ago. À la santé and cheers!” Site entrance fees apply.
