Taste your way through a weekend of delectable living history presentations at the Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site. Learn about this “food from the gods” from expert Basque chocolatier, Rafa Gorrotxategi, who will prepare regional delicacies and give demonstrations throughout the weekend. Louisbourg had a significant presence of Basque merchants and fishers in the 18th century. As the Basque were some of the first Europeans to produce and consume chocolate, it is no surprise that Louisbourg’s historical records, especially the archival probate inventories, have many references to chocolate.

Chocolate activities will be offered, and local Nova Scotia chocolatiers will have products available for purchase for this weekend only. Come and celebrate all things cacao as we “Basque” in chocolate!
