Wednesday Night Céilidhs at Colaisde na Gàidhlig

October 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29
Every Wednesday, the Gaelic College campus fills with the sound of traditional Cape Breton music, songs and dancing. A beloved tradition, these céilidhs feature top-notch local musicians, singers and dancers. In October, the céilidhs take place in MacKenzie Hall, offering a cozy, authentic experience.

Little Church in Big Baddeck Concert Series: Madison Violet

October 3
Don’t miss JUNO-nominated duo Madison Violet as they take the stage in Baddeck. Featuring Lisa MacIsaac and Brenley MacEachern, both with Cape Breton roots, the pair is known for rich harmonies, heartfelt storytelling and award-winning songs. This is part of their farewell tour, promising an evening full of memories, laughter and music.

Paranormal Investigations at the Fortress of Louisbourg

October 3–5
Step into the haunted history of the Fortress of Louisbourg. Explore centuries-old tales during this paranormal weekend with ghost tours, a stop at the Storehouse Tavern and late-night investigations. End the evening by the fire and stay overnight in a modern tent on site.

Gobblefest

October 9–13
Sydney’s beloved Gobblefest returns, filling the community with live music, local food and plenty of festive spirit. A fall tradition, Gobblefest is the perfect way to celebrate the holiday weekend with friends and neighbours.

Celtic Colours Grand Opening

October 10
The 29th edition of Celtic Colours kicks off with a Grand Opening that celebrates milestones and memories. Expect powerhouse performances from The Barra MacNeils, Flook, David Francey and more. This event sets the tone for nine days of world-class music and community.

Blueberry Jam Harvest Series

October 10–13
Celebrate Thanksgiving weekend in Mabou Ridge with the Blueberry Jam Harvest Series. This award-winning festival takes the music indoors, bringing the sounds of Cape Breton and Nova Scotia into the barn at Big Belle Farm. It’s a lively way to mark the end of harvest season with music and community spirit.

South Haven Fibre Festival

October 11–13
For more than 20 years, the South Haven Guild of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers has showcased beautiful handmade work during this Thanksgiving weekend festival. From scarves and mittens to hand-spun yarns and woven blankets, everything is for sale. Daily workshops also offer a chance to learn directly from the makers.
9 am–5 pm daily

Celtic Colours Grand Finale

October 18
The 29th Celtic Colours International Festival closes at Centre 200 in Sydney with Cape Breton’s own Jimmy Rankin. Known for his masterful storytelling and kitchen party energy, Jimmy will perform at Celtic Colours for the first time with his band. The evening also features a unique collaboration with Breanndán Ó Beaglaoich, Rose Morrison, Tim Edey and Dave Gunning. This is a perfect send-off for this year’s festival.

Sinister Soirée at the Fortress of Louisbourg

October 25
Costumes, candlelight and cobblestone streets, Sinister Soirée is a party like no other. Dance to live music, take a haunted walk, enjoy tarot readings and soak up the atmosphere of this historic site after dark.

The Savoy Unmasked

October 25
Step behind the red curtain at the Savoy Theatre in Glace Bay. This immersive gala takes guests backstage, through costume closets and into the storied history of this iconic venue. The evening includes food, drinks and a Main Stage concert featuring highlights from productions like Come From Away, Mamma Mia! and Dear Rita. With ghostly touches and moody elegance, this event launches the two-year countdown to the theatre’s 100th anniversary.

Bonus: Cabot Trail Food Truck Rally

October 25–26
Savour the flavours of the Cabot Trail as food trucks line scenic stops along the route. With breathtaking views and delicious bites at every turn, it’s a road trip you won’t forget.
