An idyllic escape from the hustle & bustle. Allow the surroundings to pull you in. The Big intervale Fishing Lodge is tucked away on the upper end of the pristine Margaree River on Cape Breton Island. Our Cabins are nestled under towering maple trees and the lush rolling hills of the Margaree Highlands and the Margaree River, the most prosperous Atlantic salmon river in Nova Scotia. Open year round, the newly renovated two-bedroom cottage contains four twin beds, a 4pc bath room, a kitchen and living area which invites to relax, read or watch tv. The 4 duplex cabins are open from May to October and contain either two double beds or one queen size bed, private bath with shower, fridge, café maker and satellite tv.
Our 60 acres of woodland and river front is ideal for those who wish to escape the world of commercialism and enjoy a quiet setting with a born fire, watching the evening sky or just want to stroll along the river.
From Big Intervale Fishing Lodge, trails lead up to Cape Clear, Wreck Cove or Cheticamp by means of 4 wheeling, dirt biking or snowmobiling the ultimate location in Margaree.
We offer Trout and Salmon fly fishing along the Margaree River and work closely with local guides. Fishing Licenses are available at the lodge.
Our fully-licensed restaurant and lounge, serving primarily European-inspired East Coast cuisine and local wines and beer, is open year round. With only limited seatings, reservations are required.
Visa and MasterCard are accepted.

The Gaels celebrated their culture not in huge buildings or sculptures but in their songs. Their songs told the stories of the people, the land, good times and bad, love's lost and yearned for.
There’s nothing better than watching two musicians who just love playing music together.
As a songwriter, I’ve often described my creative process as though I have tuned into an invisible radio frequency.
It is well-established that dance tradition is an important, if not defining, influence on Cape Breton's traditional music.
