Overview

Whycocomagh Provincial Park occupies a dramatic hillside overlooking the Skye River Valley and the Bras d’Or Lakes. This is a quiet scenic setting for camping and hiking, or as a base from which to take in the area’s many attractions. Fall colours make the park a “must-visit” location in October.

A series of hiking trails (4.9 km/3 mi total)  lead to four Salt Mountain look-offs offering excellent views of the Bras d’Or Lakes. From the park, eagles may be seen soaring above the lake or perched in trees along its shores.

Whycocomagh is Nova Scotia’s first provincial park to offer yurt camping. Yurts are outfitted with beds, solar lighting, outdoor decks and propane barbecues.

Nearby:

Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site (Baddeck) and the Highland Village Museum (Iona).

Campground accommodations include:

37 open/partially wooded overnight sites (27 unserviced; 10 with water and electrical services). Three yurts available.

Park amenities include:

flush toilets, showers, disposal station, playground, lake access, boat launch, fire grills, dishwashing station, laundry station, cooking shelters, multi-purpose building, wood, and ice. Wheelchair accessible washrooms and showers onsite.

Self-registration. Wireless Internet access is available at the administration building and surrounding area only.  Leashed pets permitted.
