About
Experience Canada’s largest inland sea as you join Captain Kerr on “Cu Na Mara” (“Hound of the Sea” in Gaelic) for a personalized day-sailing adventure on the Bras d’Or Lake in Cape Breton.
Book a full- or half-day excursion or a short tour through the St. Peter’s Canal National Historic Site. Options you may select include adventure tours, learning sailing basics, swimming, and snorkeling; snacks and refreshments are provided.
We also offer accommodations and/or lunch packages with the Bras d’Or Lakes Inn. Experienced sailors may wish to fly the Gennaker for a downwind run.
Set sail from St. Peter’s on part of the UNESCO Bras d’Or Lake BioSphere Reserve. Your captain, Gordon Kerr, will teach you the ropes of sailing and give you a chance to try it for yourself, if you wish. This adventure departs from the lake side of the St. Peter’s Canal National Historic Site, a historic locks system that connects the Atlantic Ocean to the Bras d’Or Lake.
The Bras d’Or Lake, an inland sea of part-fresh and part-salt water, is home to a variety of sea life and birds such as bald eagles and the great blue heron. For the full-day adventure, we can sail by Chapel Island National Historic Site, site of one of the first contacts between the Mi’kmaq nation and the Europeans.
The Bras d’Or Lake has a great reputation for being one of the greatest sailing destinations of the world. With its sheltered waters, summer water temperatures averaging 75–79°F (24–26°C), southwest prevailing winds, and fog-free water, you can see why the Bras d’Or Lake has acquired such a reputation.
