Orangedale Railway Station Museum
Region: Bras d’Or Lake

Award-winning museum in one of Cape Breton’s oldest ICR railway stations, dating from 1886: railway artifacts, stationmaster quarters, wai...
Come and enjoy an unforgettable vacation, here on the shores of the Bras dOr Lake, in the heart of Cape Breton Island. On this 36 acres property we offer you a cozy and comfortable cottage right the the Bras dOr Lakes and a one room Bed and Breakfast. We have daily visits from bald eagles and we have a bald eagle nest behind our barn. Experience a vacation for the whole family in a small, private environment with family atmosphere.
The picturesque town of Baddeck is just 25 minutes away while the Orangedale Railway Museum and the Highland Village Museum are 15 and 10 minutes away respectively.
The Cottage
The outstanding panoramic view over the crystal clear water of the Bras dOr Lakes toward the mountains on the opposite shore, the location in a sheltered cove at the south side of the Bay of Whycocomagh and the rich wildlife in the water and on the shores of this wooded property, were the main reasons to place the cottage right here. Your private driveway, your own lawn and your own water frontage is a guarantee for lots of privacy.
The landlord, who is a fisherman himself, will be within reach if you want him to be. He would be happy to assist you in finding the best places to watch moose, explore the nearby hidden waterfalls or hike the Cape Breton Highlands.
The cottage (26 x 24 plus loft) with its cathedral ceiling is very well insulated and therefore nice and cool during the hot summer weeks and cozy and warm during the winter. Even though black flies and mosquitoes are not an issue because of the salty breeze from the Bras dOr Lakes, all windows are screened.
On the ground floor is the main bedroom with a European style queen size bed of 53 by 610. The comfortable pull-out sofa in the living area would sleep 2 people. Over a small ladder you reach the loft with two single twin size beds of 35 by 65 (1.04m by 1.95m). The loft is not suitable for small children or those with mobility issues.
The kitchen is well equipped with microwave, coffee machine, electric stove, fridge, freezer and all pots and pans. There is one bathroom with sink, shower and toilet. Of course there is a fireplace as well. If the breeze coming from the Bras dOr Lakes is a little too fresh for you, just take a seat on the roofed patio on the south side of the cottage.
We can accommodate a maximum of four people if they are a part of a group; however, we normally we accommodate couples.
The Bed & Breakfast
At the other end of this 36 acre wooded property, we run a one-room bed and breakfast. The room is on the ground level so there are no stairs for you to climb. The B&B has a separate entrance and there is a private bathroom with shower, sink and toilet. The room is equipped with one double bed size 67 by 410. We can accommodate one person or a couple. Just in case, we can provide an extra bunk bed for an additional child.
Breakfast is served in our detached log house made from hemlock, pine and cedar. Usually, we feature a home-style breakfast with eggs from our own “happy” chickens, with bacon, toast, coffee (certified organic and fair traded) or tea, orange juice, homemade jam and bread will be served. However, special arrangements are welcome. Please let us know if you require any special care for allergist or diabetics.
