One mother. One Daughter. One crazy idea.
For professional actors Christy MacRae and Hannah Ziss Cape Breton Island has always felt like home. Christy’s father was a MacRae from Middle River and much of her family still resides in the Baddeck area. She and her family (including daughter Hannah) have spent almost every summer in Baddeck.
It always seemed crazy to them that in Baddeck – this vibrant summer town that tourists flock to every summer – there wasn’t great theatre playing every night. Therein lies the birth of the idea for Theatre Baddeck. Theatre Baddeck strives to produce perfect summer theatre fare: telling stories with a Baddeck flavour that will warm the hearts of tourists and local residents alike.
Don’t miss their inaugural production and the World-Premiere of The Young Ladies of Baddeck Club July 23-August 15, 2015.
Theatre Baddeck Presents:
The Young Ladies of Baddeck Club
By Christy Ziss and Hannah Ziss
It’s 1908 and Baddeck, Nova Scotia is preparing to celebrate its incorporation as a village. The Young Ladies of Baddeck Club intends to take part with their very own play about the history of this great village. The problem? Nobody wants to do it. A conservative mother, a liberal daughter, and two young women who wouldn’t know a soliloquy from a spinnaker endeavour to complete the task. The result? A comedic misadventure that will make you remember why you love home, why you leave home, and why Baddeck always feels like home.
