Feel the adrenaline rush of battling some of the biggest game in the Atlantic Oceanthe giant Bluefin Tuna. Join Captain Andrew Rankin, a third generation fisherman with 37 years of experience and his grown children for a tour aboard their boat, the Brown Eyed Girl ’17.
On our tuna charters you can jig mackerel and view sea life, such as pilot and minke whales, porpoises, seals and bald eagles. The tours depart from picturesque Mabou Harbour, surrounded by rolling farmlands and the hills of Mabou highlands.
Cape Breton fishermen have hauled the biggest tuna in the world with Bluefin tuna reaching speeds of up to 88 kms per hour. The World Record Bluefin tuna was caught off Cape Breton on October 26, 1979 weighing in at 1,491 lbs. Also, the highly valued Japanese delicacy, maguro (Bluefin sushi) is a profitable industry in the Cape Breton area.
Fishing charters are offered from September 1 to October 31 and include local food and beverages.
Rankin Tuna Charters is located 10 minutes from the village of Mabou, an area that is rich in Celtic culture. After a day on the water, relax at the famous Rankin Family-owned, Red Shoe Pub or at nearby Glenora Distillery, North Americas first single malt whisky distillery. Mabou is also located on the Celtic Shores Coastal Trail, Nova Scotias first destination trail for cyclists, and minutes away from the acclaimed Cabot Links and Cabot Cliffs golf courses, as well as the world famous Cabot Trail.
