In this two day workshop, students will build on their existing knowledge of natural dye and/or ecoprinting with protein fibres (i.e. silk and wool), and learn additional techniques for expanding the range of effects available when printing on both protein and cellulose fibres. There will be a review of basic mordanting and printing principles at the beginning of the workshop for those with no/limited experience. No artificial inks or dyes are used in this process, only those extracted from plants.
Students Will Take Home:
- printed samples for use in other crafts and/or as a reference library of techniques
- two printed scarves (one produced each day based on techniques learned/samples produced earlier that day)
- dye records showing all of the key variables in achieving successful results
- an expanded skill set to further explore the magic of ecoprinting
Dates (each two day workshop runs from 10 am to 4 pm, with one hour for lunch each day, which is not provided): - July 6-7, 2018 - August 10-11, 2018 Location: South Haven Community Hall, a former one room schoolhouse conveniently located 12 minutes from Baddeck, and 3 minutes from the Gaelic College (the headquarters of October's Celtic Colours International Festival).
Registration is per person and is net of HST. There is a $50 (HST inclusive) supplies fee payable directly to the instructor (cash or credit card; receipts provided) for fabric, dyes, etc. Due to the use of hot dye vas, most workshops are for ages 16+, unless specifically noted as a family event.
