Cape Breton is in his DNA.
Ashley plays the fiddle with an intensity, authenticity and passion that is hard to deny. He learned his chops at an early age mentored by some of the legendary greats of the area, performing all over the Island in halls, clubs, barns and kitchens. Hi How Are You was released in the mid-’90s and the accolades rolled in, the awards, the touring, the interviews and appearances, the persona took shape and the legend took hold.
Rose Morrison has been a professional musician for more than 20 years, touring and teaching internationally. She first came onto the scene at age 11 as an original member of The Cottars. The group recorded three albums, toured North America, Europe, and Japan, earned themselves two East Coast Music Awards, and performed at Carnegie Hall to a sold-out audience. She has since recorded and performed with Oscar and Grammy Award-winner Glen Hansard and Brendan Begley, among others, and continues to tour with many well-known artists in North America and internationally. Rose released her first solo album, The MacKenzie Project, in 2010 and her second album, Atlantic, won Instrumental Recording of the Year at the 2018 East Coast Music Awards. Later that year, Rose was artistic creator and director of the Celtic Colours special project Voices of the Naomhóg which featured artists and musicians from Nova Scotia, Ireland, and Scotland building traditional Irish row boats and included traditional music, Gaelic song, and dance from both sides of the Atlantic.
It is no surprise that BRIAN DOYLE has become the compelling musician we now see on stage. Music was as important as first steps within the vibrant Celtic music scene he was born to on Cape Breton Island, and the rich musical soil of his own Chisholm family was a perfect launching pad for the musical career that was to follow. On stage since the age of fourteen, Brian played the Rock and Blues scene with many successful groups including his own project “GREYLOCH”. A Celtic Rock fusion group nominated for EAST COAST MUSIC ASSOCIATION – Rock album of the year, 2000. Happy to play with any others on the world stage, Brian’s versatility is in demand and has him touring the U.S., Canada, U.K., and Europe. The latest ECMA nomination for the current album ” LIVE OFF THE FLOOR “, which pairs BRIAN DOYLE and SCOTT MACMILLAN for their second recording, brings Brian to a total of three nominations and one win for the CD ” Scott Macmillan Presents : The Minnie Sessions ” Vol 1. Two solo albums are currently in the works.
Be sure to spend some time in town before and after the show – grab a bite to eat, visit the shops and stay for the night.
Tunes on the Town is a live music series in downtowns throughout Cape Breton Island during summer and fall 2022. The program is supported by funding from the Government of Canada through the Rediscover Main Streets program.
