Marcus Garvey is an international symbol of black pride and freedom. Twenty-six year old Marcus Garvey had returned to Jamaica from London, he established the Universal Negro Improvement Association in 1914, 100+ years ago promoted improved education and self-reliance.  He established over 1100 branches of the U.N.I.A. in over 40 countries, including three halls in Cape Breton.  Garvey visited the Glace Bay U.N.I.A. in 1928.  Each year the Glace Bay UNIA celebrate Marcus Garvey Days.  The festival includes: Community Meet and Greet, activities for children/youth, community breakfast and more.  For further information you may phone the Glace Bay U.N.I.A. at 902-842-5389.
