Fiddlers, piano players, singers, dancers, and guitar players will congregate on the grounds of the Gaelic College, Colaisde na Gaidhlig, in St. Ann’s, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia on the weekend of August 20 - 21 to celebrate the 49th annual Festival of Cape Breton Fiddling. The roots and traditions of this unique style of music, which have become known and respected throughout the world, will be proudly displayed and thoroughly enjoyed during this entire weekend.
It was Glendale 1973 when over one hundred fiddlers, of all ages, from all over the world, assembled on the stage to perform under the watchful eye of the late Father John Angus Rankin. Twenty-five years later, in 1998, over two hundred fiddlers graced the stage at the Gaelic College, to play wonderful Cape Breton style fiddle music for thousands of people. Indeed, in 2023, the Association will celebrate its 50th Anniversary in August at the Colaisde na Gaidhlig in fine style with local, national, and international talent.
On Saturday, August 20, 2022, the Festival of Cape Breton Fiddling will begin with workshops from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. There will be instruction in fiddle, piano, and stepdancing, and all workshops will be led by well-known and respected artists. At 7:00 p.m., there will be an evening concert featuring some of finest talent found on the island and abroad. A square dance will follow this evening concert. On Sunday, August 21, there will be Gala Concert happening from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. This concert will feature local, national, and international talent.
This is a great opportunity for everyone to get together for two days of workshops, concerts music, dance, camaraderie, and just plain fun. There are safe areas for children, access to washroom facilities, a variety of food choices and wonderful entertainment for all. Everyone is invited to join in this unique experience which promises to provide something for the entire family.
