Instead of shutting our doors completely this winter, we decided to do something we’ve been trying to do for a few years now; Snowshoe the Cape Breton Highlands again. This time, we decided to open up applications and bring a few more people along with us for this 5-day trip from Ingonish to Cheticamp. Now, if you’ve never completed any multi-day hiking or backcountry trips, this may not be the trip for you, BUT if you have and this tickles your fancy, keep on reading!
This winter expedition will be broken down into various phases.
Phase I – Pre-Trip screening, training, and preparation. LLIT will assess each application on an individual basis by the completion of our Winter Expedition Questionnaire which will email this to you once you’ve signed up below. Once you’ve passed our screening process it will be up to each individual to familiarize themselves with the required gear list, and properly prepare yourself physically for the trip.
Phase II – Execution. The team will meet at Cabot Shores on February 10th, 2010 at a pre-determined time (TBD) the night prior to departure for a team brief and dinner. Each member will be given a food package and be subjected to a gear check. The team will depart for Franey Mountain Trailhead no later than 0800hrs on February 11th, 2020.
Phase III – The group will spend 5 days & 4 nights traversing the highlands passing over White Hill (the highest elevation in NS) and through the CBHNP ending on the Acadian Trail in Cheticamp at a pace of 10-15kms per day. The total estimated distance is roughly +/- 60kms.
Phase IV – Debrief: The team will check into lodging (TBD) and meet at debriefing location (TBD) on Saturday, February 15th, 2020. Depart for home Sunday, February 16th, 2020.
