Situated on one of the most picturesque coasts of Cape Breton Island, on a 15-acre site filled with wild roses and grasses, the Museum pays tribute to the regions long and rich history of coal mining.
Journey into the depths of Ocean Deeps Colliery, a coal mine located beneath the Museum building. Meet your tour guide, a former coal miner, at the entrance to the mine and dress in a poncho and hard hat to prepare for the authentic experience ahead. He will entertain you with rich and lively stories of living and mining in Cape Breton. Above ground, tour our interactive exhibits and the Miners Village to learn more about the coal industry and the men and boys who worked tirelessly underground, and the women who kept the coal fires burning!
