When I open the door to the 18th century, it catches me by surprise. It's not yet 7 a.m. as the sun rises over 1744 New France, and as I stand in the door to the soldiers' barracks where my family's slept the night thanks to a new Parks Canada campover program, I'm momentarily stilled by my view.
